Salary: $20.00 per hour and 1 class is compensated at 1.5 hours ($30/class).

Schedule: The classes are offered 3xs a week (usually M/W/F) at different community sites in Pima County and the start times are usually before noon.

Purpose: Independent contractors work under contract to teach EnhanceFitness classes as described in the EnhanceFitness Instructor Manual, and as defined in the New Instructor Training (NIT). The evidence-based class is designed for 60+ and includes cardio, strength, balance, stretch and posture exercises. It is recognized as a fall prevention class by the National Institute of Health.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
• Teaches EnhanceFitness classes per the EnhanceFitness protocols and certification standards in person and/or remotely.
• Modify exercises based on participant needs, potential injuries, or health issues.
• Notify the EnhanceFitness Program Coordinator in advance, if unable to teach a regularly scheduled class.
• Completes all accompanying paperwork for the EnhanceFitness classes.
• Attend meetings upon request as needed..
• Maintain participant confidentiality.
• Adhere to the contract between PCOA and the contractor.
• Comply and cooperate with all Federal, State, and local laws and agencies.
• Further details of the scope of work are outlined in the PCOA services contract.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Completion of the NIT scheduled by the EnhanceFitness Coordinator.
• Nationally recognized certification for Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) or Personal Trainer (PT) or 200-hour Yoga Teacher, that is either current or will be completed within six (6) months of the NIT.
• Minimum six (6) months experience working with older adults in some capacity.
• Minimum six (6) months teaching experience, ideally some sort of movement or exercise format.
• CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Provide PCOA with a valid w-9.
• Provide PCOA certificates of insurance, updated annually, that evidence the following coverage: comprehensive general and professional liability of $1 million, and name PCOA as additional insured.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Ability to professionally represent PCOA and adhere to their certification and licensing standards.
• Understand and commit to the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
• Lead the EnhanceFitness class as defined in the NIT.
• Complete any required paperwork.
• Represent PCOA and the Healthy Living Department in a professional, knowledgeable manner, reporting any issues to the EnhanceFitness Coordinator.
• Adhere to the contract between PCOA and the contractor.
• Skill in the use of first aid procedures.

Physical and Environmental Factors:
• Performs physical activities that required the movement of the whole body including lifting or moving up to 25 pounds, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Hearing requirements include ability to listen and respond appropriately to conversations in-person and in a virtual setting.

Independent Contractor:
The EnhanceFitness Instructor “Instructor” is an independent contractor to and is not an employee of Pima Council on Aging, Inc. (PCOA). The independent contractor must sign a services contract with PCOA and provide all the necessary documentation to maintain a status of good standing. The Instructor shall not be covered by any of the PCOA benefit programs, such as health and welfare benefit plans, social security, workers’ compensation, or unemployment compensation, and shall not be treated as an employee for federal tax purposes or any other purpose. The Instructor shall be responsible for paying all taxes related to payments from PCOA including federal income taxes, self-
employment (social security and Medicaid) taxes and state business and occupations taxes, and PCOA is not responsible for withholding for or paying any of those taxes.

Liability:
Each party is responsible for its own acts and omissions. No party is responsible for the acts of third parties. Each party agrees and covenants to indemnify and hold the other parties harmless against any liability of loss with respect to any acts or omissions of the indemnifying party, its officers, employees, agents, or subcontractors related to the Program or this Agreement.
