description
The National Federation of the Blind is a membership organization that believes in the capacity of blind people. We have 52 affiliates around the country that work as support groups as well being active members in their community. They also fight for the rights of the blind in their communities. We have many programs for children, transition youth, adults, and seniors. We have a Free White Cane Program in which a blind or low vision person can receive a free cane every six months if they need it.
We also have a news and information service called NFB NEWSLINE. There are over 500 newspapers and magazines on this service as well as television listings, job listings, international newspapers, circulars from Target and Walmart, and there is a scan and read software built into the service called KNFB Reader Basic. You can access this service in many ways, by touch-tone telephone, via an iPhone app, over the computer, and via email. This service is free in almost all of the United States.
We want blind people to live the lives they want, and we try to make sure they can do that without barriers.
