Looking for ways to make a difference? We can help you identify your skills and find a cause that lights you up. Many opportunities exist, including the ones below. The following programs rely upon adult volunteers (without regard to age):


Long-Term Care Ombudsman

Do you want to provide an essential voice and advocate for residents of long-term care and assisted living facilities? Become a Long-Term Care Ombudsman volunteer. Volunteers are state certified, trained and assigned their own facilities to visit and meet with residents. For more details, please call 520-790-7573, ext. 5094.


Property Tax Credit (PTC)

Experience how good it feels to help an older adult living on Social Security alone receive up to $527 from the Arizona Department of Revenue! Trained PTC Volunteers screen individuals for eligibility and then help them complete the Arizona 140PTC tax form to receive their credit or renter’s rebate. Living on a limited income and receiving that credit each year can make all the difference in the world. Familiarity with preparing tax returns is not required as PCOA does not assist with full tax returns. If you are bilingual (English/Spanish), that is a plus; however, it is not required. Caregiver Support Group

This volunteer position provides facilitation for family caregiver support and/or educational groups that are held at various locations in Pima County. This position provides support, information, and education to family caregivers to assist them with caregiving activities, decision making and problem solving. Volunteer connects attendees to Family Caregiver Support staff for further assistance, as appropriate. The volunteer is to maintain accurate and timely client records which are then given to Caregiver Specialist for Groups to put in agency database. Healthy Living

Join our PCOA Healthy Living Team today and become a volunteer leader for one or more Healthy Living Programs: A Matter of Balance, Healthy Living with Chronic Pain, Diabetes and Ongoing Conditions. Leaders are trained by PCOA, receive ongoing guidance and support and no experience or healthcare knowledge is needed. Use your good communication and listening skills in small group settings of older adults. For more details, please call 520-305-3410.


Memory Café

Memory Cafés are a judgment-free safe meeting place designed to lessen the feelings of social isolation for people living with dementia and their caregivers. Trained volunteers focus on the participants interests and abilities rather than deficits caused by the disease. Memory Cafés are held in person. Benefits Navigator

Do you have a knack for understanding complex systems and explaining them to others? Do you want to help remove barriers that prevent someone from accessing crucial benefits? If you would like to assist older people to apply and become eligible for public benefits such as ALTCS (Arizona Long Term Care System), LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) or simple utility discounts, this could be the rewarding volunteer opportunity for you! For this position, you should be comfortable making phone calls and utilizing a computer to send and receive emails, and sometimes attend Zoom meetings. There could also be occasional home visits to client houses. If you are bilingual (English/Spanish), that is a plus; however, it is not required. Visibility Matters Training Facilitator

Make a difference in the lives of LGBTQI+ older adults and get involved with Visibility Matters.  Visibility Matters offers education to aging care providers on the unique needs and concerns of aging LGBTQI+ people and their families, reducing barriers to care and improving health outcomes. Trained volunteers will deliver Visibility Matters presentations to local long-term care facilities, medical care providers, senior centers, in-home care providers, and more. If you are comfortable speaking in public, running virtual meetings, and have the patience, tactfulness and ability to treat all participants with dignity and respect, this could be the perfect opportunity for you! Volunteers must be 18 or older, have reliable transportation and computer access/skills. All volunteers must complete the application process, including submitting to a background check and obtaining a level 1 fingerprint clearance card. Administrative Volunteer

Are you organized, comfortable with computers, and able to work well as part of a team? If so, we would love for you to come and volunteer with us! We have lots of programs that help us achieve the important goal of helping older adults in our community, and each department could benefit from someone like you. Whether you are helping with filing, data entry, phone calls, or other tasks, the administrative help you provide will help us to serve our clients better.
