As part of our responsibilities under the Older Americans Act, one of PCOA’s primary responsibilities is to advocate for the needs of older adults locally, statewide, and nationally. Our advocacy work ensures that issues impacting older adults receive the attention they deserve. As a nonprofit, PCOA advocates by educating elected officials, discussing specific legislation, supporting initiatives, and collaborating in community coalitions - all while remaining nonpartisan.
You can advocate, too! Sign up for our Advocacy Alerts to receive timely emails with urgent opportunities to act - whether by contacting lawmakers, supporting key initiatives, or spreading the word within your network. These alerts make it easy to amplify your voice and bring change where it’s needed most.

Donors to PCOA make a difference for older adults
Because of thoughtful donors like you, older adults receive the care, information, and support they need to live happy, healthy, independent lives. PCOA donors give so much more than dollars – you give the gifts of compassion, hope, and dignity. Each year more than 3,000 individuals, businesses and foundations partner with PCOA to serve the older adults of Pima County. Collectively your donations, whether $5 or $25,000 make it possible for PCOA to serve nearly 20,000 people each year. Take a look at our 2023 Annual Report to see how generosity makes a difference for the older adults in our community.Make a Donation

Looking for ways to make a difference? We can help you identify your skills and find a cause that lights you up. Many opportunities exist, including the ones below. The following programs rely upon adult volunteers (without regard to age):
Long-Term Care Ombudsman
Do you want to provide an essential voice and advocate for residents of long-term care and assisted living facilities? Become a Long-Term Care Ombudsman volunteer. Volunteers are state certified, trained and assigned their own facilities to visit and meet with residents. For more details, please call 520-790-7573, ext. 5094.
Property Tax Credit (PTC)
Experience how good it feels to help an older adult living on Social Security alone receive up to $527 from the Arizona Department of Revenue! Trained PTC Volunteers screen individuals for eligibility and then help them complete the Arizona 140PTC tax form to receive their credit or renter’s rebate. Living on a limited income and receiving that credit each year can make all the difference in the world. Familiarity with preparing tax returns is not required as PCOA does not assist with full tax returns. If you are bilingual (English/Spanish), that is a plus; however, it is not required. For more details, please call 520-258-5062.
Caregiver Support Group
The Caregiver Support Group volunteer position serves as part of the Family Caregiver Support Program team and assists in providing caregiver support group facilitation to family caregivers who are struggling and frustrated with caring for an aging or sick loved one. In addition to facilitating one or more support group(s), this position provides support, resources, and education to family caregivers to help them effectively care for their loved ones. This may include helping caregivers to make proactive decisions, solve complex problems, or cope with difficult emotions related to caregiving. The support group volunteer would refer participants to other members of the Family Caregiver Support Program team for further assistance, resources, and referrals as needed. The volunteer would take notes on each caregiver’s situation and provide these notes to the Family Caregiver Support Group Specialist to be uploaded to the agency database. To volunteer in this role, a background in Counseling, Social Work or Chaplaincy is preferred.
Caregiver Support Groups are held at various locations in Pima County including Green Valley, Marana, Oro Valley, Tucson Estates and other locations in the city of Tucson. For more details, please call 520-790-7573, ext. 5069.
Healthy Living
Join our PCOA Healthy Living Team today and become a volunteer leader for one or more Healthy Living Programs: A Matter of Balance, Healthy Living with Chronic Pain, Diabetes and Ongoing Conditions. Leaders are trained by PCOA, receive ongoing guidance and support and no experience or healthcare knowledge is needed. Use your good communication and listening skills in small group settings of older adults. For more details, please call 520-305-3410.
Memory Café
Memory Cafés are a judgment-free safe meeting place designed to lessen the feelings of social isolation for people living with dementia and their caregivers. Trained volunteers focus on the participants' interests and abilities rather than deficits caused by the disease. Memory Cafés are held in person. For more details, please call 520-790-7573, ext. 1739.
Administrative Volunteer
Are you organized, comfortable with computers, and able to work well as part of a team? If so, we would love for you to come and volunteer with us! We have lots of programs that help us achieve the important goal of helping older adults in our community, and each department could benefit from someone like you. Whether you are helping with filing, data entry, phone calls, or other tasks, the administrative help you provide will help us to serve our clients better. If you are bilingual (English/Spanish), that is a plus, but it is not required. For more details, please call 520-258-5062.
